Friday December 1st, 2006, Los Laga Bai officially started the 2007 carnival season with a presentation of their costume for 2007 and the traditional brochure with history of the group. In 2007 Los Laga Bai will be participating for the 25th time in Aruba’s carnival.

It was on January 20, 1983 that John Fingal, Jan Bodeker and Emile de Cuba were sitting at the bar at Manchebo Hotel when they started to discuss what to do about participation in carnival. It was supposed to be a one time joke just so they can participate in that year’s carnival. The participation was a complete success and John, Jan and Emile were proud to have organized such a jolly group during that year. In 1984 they got so many petitions to organize the group and participate again and that went on for the next 24 years.

To commemorate this event, Los Laga Bai published a book covering the history of Los Laga Bai with many great pictures of the first years of Los Laga Bai. The book also contains a list of all the people who participated in Los Laga Bai for the last 24 years. This book was officially presented to the invitees.

The Los Laga Bai organization also took this opportunity to thank all the sponsors of the group during the parade which are Heineken, Stern, Albo, Arubaanse Wegenbouw y B.J. Arends & Sons.

During this night, the costume of 2007 was presented to the press. This year Los Laga Bai specially imprinted the fabric of the costume which concites with the theme of 2007. The design represents the theme “CASCABELNAN DI FORTUNA”. This theme was inspired by the evolution of design and organization and the development of Los Laga Bai during the last 24 years which represents a combination of stability, culture, tradition and confidence.

To express these characteristics two aspects of our beautiful island were chosen. The first aspect is our symbols of the past which already gave a lot of inspiration and which we see everyday like in our coins and paper money. For the second aspect we choose our fauna. In particular the Aruban rattlesnake which on itself is unique just like Los Laga Bai. And just like the rattlesnake which changes its skin every year, Los Laga Bai changes its carnival activities.

Los Laga Bai considers itself a fortunate group because it is one of the few remaining groups that has contributed to Aruba’s carnival for so many years. This fortune is thanks to our loyal participants.

During the last 24 years Los Laga Bai has received help and support from many people for which Los Laga Bai would like to thank from the bottom of our hearts.
